Contact Dance Residencies April 17 to August 30 Portugal

For two years now, the Garden [non-profit] is establishing itself as an European epicentre for mischief & magic, science & systems. Also, we've thrown some incredible dance parties. We've hosted two week-long Contact Camps.

In order to nurture the practice of contact and create a critical mass on the dance-floor, We offer 20% subsidies on our base-rate (=€152/week for food, facilities, hot tub, sauna, lake, swimming springs, and so much more..) for those passionate about contact, movement, and improvisation.

We invite those who believe that contact improv can be about both physics & connection. In the tradition of Moksa, we will host contact dojos Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday. The format is a silent tea-ceremony leading into an open-flow jam. Music will be downtempo or renaissance polyphony.

📍 We are 45 minutes North of Porto & 15 minutes from the closest train/bus station (Viana do Castelo)

The Garden, a private, 22 acre enchanted forest estate nestled in the heart of the Lima Valley. 2000sqm [21000sqft] of buildings & infrastructure, with established forest garden and groves, pool, sauna, hot tub [on the way], villa, two grand halls & embodiment space, four kitchens, sundecks & wooden platforms, giant dance floor, cork dojo, circus arts, gym, private lake, two swimming springs, jam space full of instruments & soundsystems, fruit orchards.

Geographic Context

♣️ 45 minutes from Porto Airport [OPO.] ♣️ 3.5 hours from Lisbon. ♣️ 20 minutes to the beach [kitesurfing.] ♣️ 20 minutes to the waterfall valley hikes. ♣️ 15 minutes to Viana do Castelo & Ponte de Lima. ♣️ Forested hiking footsteps out the back gate.

We work hard. There is a dedicated private space for calls and indoor and outdoor space for co-working.

Everything on this land is buzzing with life, and the guardian of everything is a wild Garrano stallion.

Food is central to the experience at the Garden and is included as part of your stay. Cooking & clean-up is a shared karma by both residents & volunteers. Hearty communal lunch and dinner are served Monday - Friday. Meals are plant based, and we get local eggs. There is peanut butter on tap.

🔮Transparency

The object of the non-profit Garden association is to promote art & culture. This project is an emerging global hub, with the intention to offer a space for connection and creation with both self and others. In this donation-based residency, all participants help to sculpt and improve their environment with their creativity, care, genius, and artistry.

🙋Participation

This is a curated, co-created dance camp. That means the content and production is crowdsourced by the curated residents, volunteers, core team, and visiting facilitators. Happening concurrently is a volunteer program & creative residency program. There's plenty of space and infrastructure for everyone to play, and still have private space. This is a playground that invites workshops, games, meditation, shenanigans, yoga, meditation, contact improv, music jams, dances, and so much more.

We have a thriving volunteer program. If you can't afford €95/week, there are always opportunities to get your hands (or mind) dirty volunteering on the property, building, or helping out in the kitchen.
